Court orders release of Ambika Basnet, 9 others on bail



KATHMANDU: Mahesh Basnet’s wife Ambika Basnet has been released on bail.

The order was issued on Thursday by a single bench of Judge Mahendra Bahadur Karki at the Kathmandu District Court, which directed the release of all 10 accused, including Ambika, on bail in connection with an alleged assault case involving Shobha Pathak, also known as Januka Pathak, at Maitighar Mandala.

The Kathmandu District Police Range had filed the case after extending the investigation period based on a complaint lodged by Shobha Pathak of Dhading, alleging that she had been assaulted by Ambika and nine others.

The court ordered the release of Ambika Basnet and Sharmila Basnet upon posting bail of Rs 50,000 each. The remaining eight defendants were ordered released on bail of Rs 25,000 each.

Others named in the case include Gita Pandit, Pragati Thapa, Sonu Baral, Januka Basnet, Rekha Nyaupane, Nita Khatri, Sabina KC and Kamala Basnet.
