Chitwan Medical College to operate hospitals in Kathmandu and Hetauda

CHITWAN: Chitwan Medical College (CMC) is set to operate highly specialised hospitals in Tinkune, Kathmandu, and Hetauda, the capital of Bagmati Province.

Construction of a state-of-the-art hospital building in Kathmandu has reached the final stage, while the foundation stone for a new hospital building in Hetauda was recently laid.

CMC Chairman and Managing Director Prof. Dr. Harishchandra Neupane said the Kathmandu hospital will come into operation under the name “CMC Kathmandu” from the upcoming Dashain festival. The hospital is being built on 17 ropanis of land with an investment exceeding Rs 12 billion. He said India’s Medanta Hospital will initially manage the hospital.

The 300-bed hospital will provide highly specialized services, particularly in cancer treatment, along with a full range of specialist healthcare services.

“We are operating a hospital equipped with state-of-the-art technology through a huge investment to provide services comparable to world-class hospitals,” Prof. Neupane said. “Our goal is to ensure Nepalis no longer need to travel abroad for treatment.”

According to him, the hospital will provide services comparable to those available in countries such as India.

Meanwhile, construction of the CMC Hetauda Hospital has also begun in Hetauda Sub-metropolitan City-4 along the highway.

Hospital Chairman and Managing Director Pratap Devkota said the 100-bed highly specialised hospital is expected to begin operations by Dashain 2084 BS. The project is estimated to cost around Rs 2.5 billion.

He said the hospital, being developed in partnership with local stakeholders, would benefit residents of Makawanpur and neighbouring districts while also creating employment opportunities. Currently, patients from the area often travel to Bharatpur, Kathmandu, and even India for specialized treatment.

Established 20 years ago in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-10, Chitwan Medical College currently operates a 700-bed hospital. The institution, affiliated with Tribhuvan University, is among the medical colleges in Nepal that serve the highest number of patients and also runs health education programs.
