Trump warns of dire consequences as Iran deadline looms

WASHINGTON DC: US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning that “an entire civilisation could be at risk” if Iran fails to reach an agreement to reopen the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz by a set deadline.

At the same time, Trump said there remains a possibility of a positive breakthrough before the 20:00 EDT Tuesday deadline, suggesting that “a significant and transformative outcome” could still be achieved.

Meanwhile, the United States has reportedly conducted fresh airstrikes targeting military sites on Kharg Island, Iran’s main oil export hub, according to media reports.

In Iran, state media said at least two people were killed following a strike on a bridge in Kashan. The incident came hours after Israel issued warnings advising civilians to avoid train travel for safety reasons.

The Israel Defense Forces stated that Iran has launched additional missile attacks toward Israel, amid reports from several Gulf countries of overnight strikes across the region.
