NCP to field separate candidates in National Assembly elections

KATHMANDU: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP), led by coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda,’ has decided to field its own candidates in the upcoming National Assembly elections.

Party leader Dev Gurung confirmed to Khabarhub that the NCP will nominate candidates independently from each province.

Gurung said, “We initially requested four seats based on vote share, but when the allocation did not meet our demand, we decided to proceed with our own nominations.”

The NCP’s decision follows a split in negotiations with the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. While Congress agreed to allocate seats, CPN-UML did not, prompting the NCP to register its candidates separately.

CPN-UML Secretary Sherdhan Rai clarified that the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, and the Janata Samajwadi Party will still participate in the elections as a coalition.

“The NCP will not join the coalition. Nepali Congress, UML, and Janata Samajwadi will field their joint candidates,” Rai said. He added that efforts to include the NCP in the coalition continued until Wednesday morning but failed over disagreements on seat allocation.
