Bodies recovered from flood-hit rivers being managed at various hospitals

KATHMANDU: A flash flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa last Wednesday morning caused significant loss of life and property.

The flood has affected large areas of Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading, while security agencies continue coordinated rescue, search and relief operations. However, recovering and managing the bodies of those killed in the disaster has proved challenging.

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) said the bodies recovered from various flood-hit rivers have been taken to different hospitals for identification and management.

Of the 579 bodies recovered as of Friday evening, 511 had been sent to various hospitals, according to the authority.

In Rasuwa, three recovered bodies were taken to Rasuwa District Hospital in Dhunche.

In Dhading, 27 bodies were sent to Pokhara and 10 to Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH). Similarly, 38 bodies recovered in Nuwakot were taken to TUTH.

In Chitwan, 171 bodies were kept at Bharatpur District Hospital, four at National City Hospital, two at Bharatpur Community Hospital, two at Narayani Hospital and 41 at the Industrial and Commercial Development Institute.

In Tanahun, nine bodies were taken to Manipal Hospital in Pokhara, five to Provincial Hospital Damauli and 14 to Gandaki Hospital Pokhara.

In Gorkha, 29 bodies were kept at Province Hospital Gorkha, 11 at Gandaki Hospital Pokhara and four at NPI Hospital Gorkha.

In Nawalparasi East, six bodies were taken to Madhyabindu Municipal Hospital in Chormara, 36 to Gaindakot Municipal Hospital, 22 to Madhyabindu Provincial Hospital in Danda, four to District Hospital Palpa, two to Mission Hospital Palpa, two to Lumbini Hospital Palpa and 41 to Gandaki Hospital Pokhara.

In Nawalparasi West, eight bodies were kept at Prithvi Chandra Hospital in Parasi, 11 at Lumbini Provincial Hospital in Butwal, Rupandehi, three at Bhim Hospital in Bhairahawa and six at Pipara Hospital in Kapilvastu, according to the authority.

The authority said efforts are underway to transport the remaining recovered bodies to appropriate hospitals and hand them over to their respective families and places of origin.
