KATHMANDU: A writ petition filed by Dan Bahadur Karki at the Supreme Court, challenging his removal from the post of Inspector General of Police (IGP), has been formally registered.
Karki had filed the petition through his lawyers on Thursday. However, the Supreme Court administration registered it on Friday after completing the preliminary examination.
The petition could not be registered on Thursday as the court administration was reviewing its contents, according to sources. As per the usual court procedure, a hearing date is generally scheduled for the day following the registration of a writ petition.
The government has removed Karki from the post of IGP and assigned him the responsibility of security adviser to the Prime Minister. However, Karki has not yet received the formal letter communicating the Cabinet’s decision, according to the information provided.
