Over 2,500 motorists penalized in a single day for traffic violations in Kathmandu Valley



KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office has taken action against 2,511 motorists in a single day for violating traffic rules, generating Rs 2.084 million in revenue for the state.

According to the traffic police, the highest number of violations were recorded under general non-compliance of traffic rules, followed by offences related to drink-driving, lane discipline, signal violations, and improper parking.

Among those penalized, 193 drivers were found driving under the influence of alcohol, while 166 were booked for operating ride-sharing services in violation of regulations.

Similarly, 129 motorists were penalized for violating traffic signal lights, and 167 were caught driving at high speed.

Traffic police also took action against 42 drivers for not following lane discipline.

In addition, 165 individuals were fined for unnecessary horn use in restricted areas, while 156 were penalized for parking on sidewalks.

A further 168 motorists were booked for driving in one-way streets against regulations.

According to the office, the largest group—1,325 motorists—were penalized for various other traffic rule violations not specified in separate categories.

Traffic police said such enforcement drives are conducted regularly to improve road discipline and ensure public safety across the Kathmandu Valley.
