Some highways reopen as others remain blocked

KATHMANDU: Traffic has resumed on several highways across the country that were obstructed by floods and landslides triggered by continuous rainfall over the past few days. However, sections of the BP Highway and the Mid-Hill Highway remain blocked.

According to police, traffic has reopened along the Kantilokpath at Bhalukhola in Bagmati Rural Municipality–3, Lalitpur; the Hangangdang–Thukimba–Dobhan road section in Meringden Rural Municipality–5, Taplejung; and the Araniko Highway, which had been blocked by a landslide at Iku in Kodari, Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality–2, Sindhupalchowk.

Traffic has also resumed on the Kantilokpath section at Bharyangdanda in Bhimphedi Rural Municipality–8, Makawanpur.

Meanwhile, the Mid-Hill Highway at Bokhim in Bhojpur Municipality and the Beni–Jomsom road section at Jalthale in Annapurna Rural Municipality–3, Myagdi are operating on a one-way basis.

However, several routes remain completely blocked. These include the inner unpaved road via Salakpur–Dakhep leading to Jhapa in Rong Rural Municipality–6, Ilam; the BP Highway section at Charsayabesi between Chowkidanda in Namobuddha Municipality–6 and Roshi Rural Municipality–7 in Kavrepalanchowk; and the Mid-Hill Highway at Bimire Bhanjyang in Madhya Nepal Municipality–10, Lamjung.

In addition, all vehicles have been barred from operating along the Khurkot–Nepalthok–Katunjebesi route in Kavrepalanchowk.

Police have urged travelers to exercise caution, noting that the risk of floods and landslides remains high during the rainy season, particularly on partially open and vulnerable road sections.
