‘Friendship City’ agreement signed between Australia’s Wyndham City and Godavari Municipality

KATHMANDU: A “Friendship City” agreement was formally signed between Wyndham City in Victoria, Australia, and Godavari Municipality in Lalitpur.

The cooperation agreement was signed during a program held in Wyndham City. Mayor Preet Singh signed on behalf of Wyndham City, while Administrative Chief Man Bahadur Khadka signed on behalf of Godavari Municipality. Both parties expressed gratitude to tourism entrepreneur and activist DN Ghising for facilitating the agreement.

Describing the partnership as a significant and historic step in strengthening local-level international relations, both sides emphasized its long-term importance. “This historic agreement aims to expand mutual cooperation, exchange of experiences, and foster enduring relations between the two cities,” the agreement states.

Godavari Municipality is widely recognized for its natural beauty, rich biodiversity, and cultural heritage. In contrast, Wyndham City is noted for its modern infrastructure, multicultural community, and sustainable urban development practices.

Through the agreement, both sides have committed to promoting mutual visits, cultural exchanges, and institutional collaboration in the years ahead.

The signing ceremony was attended by a large number of entrepreneurs, business leaders, and local representatives of Nepali origin. Participants hailed the agreement as a milestone in further strengthening long-term Nepal–Australia relations at the local level.

Speakers at the program expressed confidence that cooperation in areas such as education, tourism, culture, environmental protection, economic development, and community development would yield lasting benefits for both cities.

The agreement is also seen as a step toward deepening the diplomatic ties between Nepal and Australia—relations that have spanned more than six decades—by extending them to the local level.
