Monsoon to remain active for three more days

KATHMANDU: Rainfall is expected to continue across Nepal for the next three days, with moderate to heavy rain and thunderstorms forecast in several parts of the country.

The Weather Forecasting Division said monsoon winds are currently affecting the country, while the monsoon trough has shifted north of its average position.

According to the Division, the northward shift of the monsoon trough means it has moved somewhat closer to Nepal, increasing the likelihood of rainfall. However, the Division said the position of the trough alone does not determine the intensity of rainfall, as the amount of moisture it carries also plays an important role.

Rainfall activity is expected to continue for the next three days, although extremely heavy and continuous rainfall is not currently anticipated. The Division said rainfall is likely to occur intermittently during this period.

According to the Division, the weather will remain generally cloudy across the country during the day.

Moderate to heavy rain or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is possible at some places in the Himalayan region, while many parts of the hilly region are also likely to receive moderate to heavy rain with thunder and lightning.

Moderate to heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning is expected in many parts of the Terai in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as at some places in the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, including Madhes Province.

Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the mountainous and hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces, the hilly areas of Karnali Province, and the hilly and Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

At night, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy across the country. Some parts of the mountainous and hilly regions are likely to receive moderate to heavy rain or snowfall with thunder and lightning, while some areas of the Terai may also experience moderate to heavy rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning.

Heavy rainfall is possible at one or two locations in the hilly areas of Koshi and Bagmati provinces and the Terai areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.
