Foreign Minister Khanal seeks stronger trade, tourism and technology ties with Korea



KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal has stressed the need to further expand air connectivity, trade, tourism, education, technology, and people-to-people relations between Nepal and South Korea.

During a farewell meeting with South Korean Ambassador Park Taeyong, who is returning home after completing his three-year term in Nepal, Minister Khanal emphasized the importance of promoting trade, health, and education as key areas of bilateral cooperation, according to his private secretariat.

Stating that new areas for investment should be identified, Khanal said cooperation should be expanded beyond the energy and manufacturing sectors to other fields of mutual interest.

He also highlighted the need to strengthen collaboration between research institutions of the two countries in the education sector. Referring to South Korea’s Employment Permit System (EPS), the foreign minister said it has become a model of Nepal-Korea relations and has further deepened ties between the people of the two countries.

Ambassador Park expressed happiness at having had the opportunity to serve in Nepal and said he would always remember the country wherever he goes. He also praised Nepal’s cultural diversity.
