Rs 1.2 million recovered from gamblers in last fiscal year



CHITWAN: Police in Chitwan have detained 57 people on gambling charges from various locations in the district since the beginning of the current fiscal year.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chandra Bhusan Yadav, information officer at the District Police Office, the suspects were arrested from five different places and Rs 838,645 in cash was recovered from them.

All those detained are being investigated for gambling-related offenses, and some cases have already been forwarded to the District Administration Office after preliminary investigation, DSP Yadav said.

During the previous fiscal year, police arrested 101 gamblers and recovered Rs 1,209,365 in cash from them. They were also prosecuted under gambling laws.

Police said they have recently intensified raids and surveillance at locations suspected of hosting gambling activities.
