KATHMANDU: A dispute between the CPN-UML and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has intensified following the commission’s report on the Gen-Z movement, with the party indicating it may seek judicial review.
In a press statement issued by General Secretary Shankar Pokharel, the party said the NHRC report raises constitutional and legal questions and could be challenged in court if necessary.
The statement further said that the party would explore all available legal remedies in response to the report.
The CPN-UML has described the commission’s findings as “politically biased” and “motivated by bad intent,” according to the statement.
The party also argued that the NHRC must operate strictly within its constitutional mandate and maintain neutrality and impartiality while carrying out its duties.
The development signals a potential escalation of tensions between the political party and the constitutional human rights body over the contents and interpretation of the report.
