DP Aryal vows to prevent future Gen-Z-style protests through laws and policies

KATHMANDU: Dol Prasad Aryal, the newly elected Speaker of the House of Representatives, has pledged to focus on creating laws, policies, and regulations to prevent youth-led protests like the Gen-Z movement in the future.

Speaking after taking office at the Federal Parliament Secretariat in Singha Durbar, Aryal said that since his leadership comes after an election held following the Gen-Z protests, which resulted in significant casualties and property damage, he will prioritize measures to ensure such incidents do not recur.

He said that rebuilding structures damaged during protests does not necessarily require new legislation, but where needed, new laws will be enacted swiftly to restore them. Aryal also committed to maintaining the dignity, decorum, and effectiveness of Parliament, performing his role in a fair, balanced, and accountable manner.

The Speaker added that he will work in coordination with all political parties and members of Parliament to establish the legislature as an effective, accountable, and citizen-focused institution.
