Ballot boxes from three Rukum East polling stations airlifted; counting to begin Friday

RUKUM EAST: Ballot boxes from three polling stations in Rukum East District were transported to the district election office in Rukumkot by helicopter, as the areas are inaccessible by road and would take a day to reach on foot.

The polling stations include Pakhapani in Sisne Rural Municipality-1, Himal School Pelma in Putha Uttarganga Rural Municipality-2, and Hardibang in the same ward. Collection of ballot boxes from other polling stations is ongoing.

Assistant Election Officer and Information Officer Ishwari Prasad Subedi said all ballot boxes are expected to be collected by midnight. An all-party meeting will be held Friday morning before counting begins.

Rukum Purba has 56 polling stations with 34,772 registered voters. Due to the lack of telephone connectivity in these areas, the district election office has not yet received overall turnout data.

A total of 11 candidates are contesting in the district, including Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the coordinator of the Nepal Communist Party.
