PM Shah and Australian counterpart hold telephone conversation

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah and his Australian counterpart, Anthony Albanese, held a telephone conversation this morning.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Shah emphasized the importance of communicating with his Australian counterpart at a time when Nepal is going through a difficult situation, according to Deepa Dahal, press and research expert to the Prime Minister.

Shah expressed gratitude for the solidarity extended by the Australian government and its citizens following the loss of lives, property, and physical infrastructure caused by the massive flooding of the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26.

He also commended Australia for its assistance in Nepal’s rescue and relief operations following the disaster. In particular, he thanked Australia for deploying a team of drone operators, including specialists, providing essential relief supplies, and extending financial assistance.

During the telephone talks, Shah said the search operation for Australian citizens missing in the floods was being intensified. Highlighting the long-standing and close relations between Nepal and Australia, he affirmed that Nepal would continue to coordinate and collaborate with Australia in search, rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts during the disaster. Australian Prime Minister Albanese expressed concern over the difficulties Nepal is facing as a result of the disaster.
