KARNALI: The District Traffic Police Office, Surkhet, has collected more than Rs 13.3 million in revenue through traffic enforcement measures.
According to the office, a total of Rs 13.381 million was collected during the last fiscal year 2082/83. Drivers violating traffic rules, including drunk driving and speeding, were brought under legal action, informed Chief Police Inspector Rohit Kumar Shahi.
Police also collected Rs 570,000 in revenue by taking action against vehicle owners and drivers who illegally modified the appearance of their vehicles. The office said traffic awareness programs were conducted for 231,137 people during the year.
According to police records, 37 people lost their lives in 957 road accidents in Surkhet over the same period. Chief Police Inspector Shahi said speeding was the main cause of road accidents. Other contributing factors included mechanical problems, pedestrian negligence, poor road infrastructure, adverse weather conditions, and the presence of livestock on roads.
