LALITPUR: Minister for Communication and Information Bikram Timilsina has said that Nepali literature continues to connect universal human concerns with local realities, helping to foster deeper understanding across cultures and communities.
Addressing the inauguration of the Himalayan Literature Festival and Writers Workshop 2026 in Lalitpur on Thursday, Minister Timilsina said literature and music possess the unique ability to build connections beyond the boundaries of politics, geography and social divisions.
He described literature as one of the most powerful mediums for understanding human civilization, stating that it encourages self-reflection and strengthens human sensitivity and empathy.
The minister noted that despite rapid changes in global politics, economics and technology, people around the world continue to search for meaning, dignity, identity and hope.
Highlighting Nepal’s cultural diversity, Timilsina said more than 120 languages are spoken in the country, each carrying its own unique worldview. He added that the stories, folklore, myths and collective memories of different communities have enriched Nepal’s shared national identity.
The minister also expressed confidence that the gathering of international writers and literary figures in Kathmandu would help introduce Nepal’s mountains, cultural heritage, languages and stories to a wider global audience.
He said such literary exchanges would contribute to promoting Nepal’s cultural richness internationally while strengthening dialogue among writers, scholars and readers from different parts of the world.
