HoR polls: EC ensures essential financial services during holidays

KATHMANDU: With just one day remaining for the House of Representatives (HoR) election, the Election Commission (EC) has said necessary arrangements have been made to ensure essential financial services continue despite the public holidays.

The government has declared three public holidays in view of the general election scheduled for March 5. The holidays also coincide with Phagu Purnima and other observances.

The Commission stated that coordination has been carried out with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General to prevent disruption to key financial functions, including revenue collection, payment, and disbursement related to election activities. Technical personnel have been deployed to ensure uninterrupted system operations during the holiday period.

Arrangements have also been made with Nepal Rastra Bank, agency banks handling government transactions, and banks and financial institutions managing election campaign accounts of political parties and candidates to facilitate necessary deposit and payment services.

The Commission clarified that while essential systems will remain in place during the holidays, regular financial and banking services will not operate on election day, when voters across the country cast their ballots simultaneously. Normal services will resume from March 6, according to Commission spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
