Baburam warns PM: Govt will fail if you try to please everyone
Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has cautioned Prime Minister (PM) Balendra Shah and the newly formed youth-dominated government against attempting to please everyone, warning that such an approach could ultimately lead to failure. Expressing his views on social media, Dr. Bhattarai drew the government’s attention by quoting a well-known English saying. “I cannot give you the formula for success, but I can definitely give you the formula for failure: try to please everyone,” he wrote.
Madhesh gradually returns to normal after recent tensions
Normal activity is gradually resuming in the restive Madhesh Province. The province had remained tense since Thursday following the death of Ganesh Yadav in Golbazar, Siraha. After a written agreement was reached between Home Minister Sudan Gurung and the victim’s family on Friday, the situation has begun returning to normal. The curfew and prohibitory orders imposed by local administrations in parts of Dhanusha, Siraha, and Saptari have been lifted. Public transport has resumed, and markets in the affected areas have reopened.
Nepali Congress demands judicial probe into Sunsari and other incidents
The Nepali Congress has called on the government to establish an independent judicial inquiry into the incidents in Sunsari and other parts of the country, arguing that the existing investigation mechanism is inadequate. A meeting of the party’s parliamentary party held at Singha Durbar on Monday concluded that the probe committee formed by the Ministry of Home Affairs would not be sufficient to uncover the truth behind the incidents. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Nepali Congress General Secretary Pradeep Paudel said the party had urged the government to conduct an impartial investigation, make the findings public, and take legal action against those found responsible.
Bus-hit sends parked car plunging into Sunkoshi River
A car has gone missing after falling into the Sunkoshi River near Nawalpurghat along the Mid-hill Highway in Phikkal rural municipality- 2 in Sindhuli. The car (Pradesh 3 01-24 Cha 9573) fell into the river after being hit by a passenger bus with registration number Ba 08-001 Kha 0144 while it was parked on the roadside. Following collision at 11:30 am today, the car plunged about 50 meters down the road.
Janardan Sharma leads formation of new political front with Madhesh-based parties
Pragatisheel Loktantrik Party Chair Janardan Sharma is set to launch a new political front in collaboration with several Madhesh-based parties, marking a fresh attempt to unite alternative political forces. According to Sharma’s secretariat, the alliance will be formally announced at a gathering in Thapagaun, Kathmandu, on August 8. The proposed front will include the Janamat Party led by Dr. CK Raut, the Janata Samajbadi Party Nepal headed by Upendra Yadav, the Aam Janata Party led by Prabhu Sah, the Nagarik Unmukti Party associated with Resham Chaudhary, the Bahujan Ekata Party, and the Federal Socialist Party Nepal, among others.
Monsoon to remain active for three days
Monsoon conditions are expected to remain active across Nepal for the next 72 hours, bringing the possibility of heavy and very heavy rainfall in a number of provinces and increasing the likelihood of flash floods in vulnerable areas. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall at one or two places in the hilly regions of the country and in parts of the Terai of Lumbini Province today. Very heavy rainfall is also likely at one or two places in the hilly areas of Karnali Province and in the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini Province.
Oli summons UML Bagmati lawmakers to Gundu as Chief Minister race hits deadlock
Internal tensions within the CPN-UML have intensified after the party’s decision to share power with the Nepali Communist Party (NCP) in provincial governments triggered disputes over leadership changes in Koshi, Lumbini and Bagmati provinces. The latest flashpoint has emerged in Bagmati Province, where UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has called all UML provincial lawmakers to Gundu on Monday evening after efforts to secure a majority in support of parliamentary party leader Jagannath Thapaliya for chief minister failed.
Sherdhan Rai: UML will implement party leadership’s decision in Koshi
CPN-UML Secretary Sherdhan Rai has said the party will implement the directives issued by its central leadership regarding the political situation in Koshi Province. 39 human rights violation complaints registered in Madhesh
The Madhesh Province Office of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in Janakpurdham received 39 complaints related to human rights violations during fiscal year 2025/26. According to office chief Buddhanarayan Sahani Kewat, many of the complaints involved violations of fundamental rights, women’s and children’s rights, racial and caste-based discrimination, economic and social rights, and protection from torture.
Long-term solution sought as Maitighar flooding worsens
The flooding problem in the Maitighar Mandala area, considered one of the central points of Kathmandu, has persisted for years. The main road leading to Singha Durbar, the Supreme Court, various ministries, and diplomatic missions is repeatedly submerged during rainfall, affecting both the general public and high-profile individuals. Even during moderate rain, waterlogging disrupts pedestrians and vehicles, causes traffic congestion, and increases the risk of road accidents. The problem has been worsening year after year due to the lack of concrete initiatives and long-term policies to address it.
Bhaktapur Court orders release of Durga Prasai
The Bhaktapur District Court has ordered the release of medical entrepreneur and campaigner Durga Prasai. A bench of Judge Navaraj Dahal directed authorities to release Prasai without extending his judicial remand, rejecting a police request to continue the investigation through additional custody. Court Registrar Dal Bahadur Bajimaya confirmed that the court declined the police’s request for a remand extension and ordered Prasai’s release.
Gas to be delivered to homes of people in distress: Chitwan CDO
The Chitwan District Administration has urged the public to contact the Office of the Chief District Officer if they are facing hardship and are unable to obtain cooking gas. Gas companies have arranged to deliver liquefied petroleum (LP) gas to the homes of single women, elderly people, persons with disabilities, students living in hostels, ashrams, and other essential institutions through their dealers and sub-dealers. The arrangement was made following discussions held today between the District Administration Office, gas industries, and gas dealers.

A rush of consumers seeking cooking gas led to long lines at the National Trading branch office in Teku, highlighting rising anxiety over the availability of essential household supplies in the capital. Many consumers arrived early in the morning, and the crowd continued to grow throughout the day. Some people said they had been waiting for several hours to receive a cylinder. The rush comes at a time when demand for liquefied petroleum (LP) gas has increased and the public has become increasingly sensitive to any possibility of supply disruption. Although gas distributors have stated that there is no immediate shortage, the heavy crowd in Teku reflected the anxiety among consumers.

Gold rises Rs 800 per tola, silver gains Rs 35
The prices of gold and silver, which had declined yesterday, increased today. The price of gold rose by Rs 800 per tola to reach Rs 284,000. Yesterday, it had fallen by Rs 1,800 per tola to Rs 283,200. Similarly, the price of silver increased by Rs 35 per tola to Rs 4,350.
