KATHMANDU: The Nepali Congress has formed a 40-member Strategic Response Team to strengthen disaster preparedness, rescue operations and relief coordination.
The announcement was made by party Vice President and head of the Central Policy, Research and Training Academy, Bishwo Prakash Sharma, during the closing ceremony of a three-day disaster preparedness and response training program held at the party’s central office in Sanepa.
The newly formed team comprises 40 young participants who completed the training. The party expects the team to play an active role in rescue, coordination and relief management during disasters.
Addressing the event, Sharma described the three-day training as the beginning of a long-term effort aimed at saving lives and serving communities affected by disasters.
He said the Nepali Congress plans to develop a nationwide network of around 1,000 trained disaster response volunteers.
Sharma also reiterated the party’s commitment to standing with citizens during times of crisis, saying the Nepali Congress remains a responsible political force dedicated to serving society and the nation.
The training featured experienced experts affiliated with the United Nations and the International Red Cross, who provided both practical and theoretical instruction on disaster preparedness, emergency response, rescue operations and coordination.
