Foreign Minister Khanal, visiting ex-PM from Mongolia meet, discuss potential cooperation in multiple areas



KATHMANDU: Visiting former Prime Minister of Mongolia, Gombojavyn Zandanshatar, today paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs, Shisir Khanal.

In the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two discussed Nepal-Mongolia bilateral relations, geopolitical similarities, and the potential cooperation in the areas of development, trade, partnership and Buddhist norms and values.

On the occasion, the Minister said Nepal and Mongolia share similarities in terms of geopolitics, adding that Nepal is eager to learn from Mongolia’s experiences across various areas.

He said Nepal is interested in expanding the bilateral cooperation in the areas of development, trade, partnership and Buddhist norms and values.

As he said, Nepal and Mongolia can raise their voices collectively for the rights and interests of land-locked countries.

He applauded Mongolia for maintaining balanced relations with its neighboring countries and demonstrating effective partnership management.

During the meeting, the two also explored possible ways to further strengthen bilateral and diplomatic relations between Nepal and Mongolia.

 Minister Khanal said that the government of Nepal is keen to further strengthening relations with Mongolia as a spiritual partner. He clarified that Nepal is committed to advancing cooperation between the two countries across various areas.

In response, the Mongolia’s former Prime Minister talked about the geographical similarities between the two countries, pressing the need for small countries like Nepal and Mongolia to move ahead in unison in the changing global system.

He said that Nepal and Mongolia share common Buddhist values and culture, and that both countries are spiritual neighbors. He added that Mongolia is keen to cooperate with Nepal in the areas of Buddhist values, culture and the development of chess in Nepal.
