Gas shortage fears trigger long lines in Kathmandu (Pics)

KATHMANDU: A rush of consumers seeking cooking gas led to long lines at the National Trading branch office in Teku, highlighting rising anxiety over the availability of essential household supplies in the capital.

Many consumers arrived early in the morning, and the crowd continued to grow throughout the day. Some people said they had been waiting for several hours to receive a cylinder.

The rush comes at a time when demand for liquefied petroleum (LP) gas has increased and the public has become increasingly sensitive to any possibility of supply disruption. Although gas distributors have stated that there is no immediate shortage, the heavy crowd in Teku reflected the anxiety among consumers.
