POKHARA: A shortage of blood has been reported in Pokhara, with the Provincial Blood Transfusion Service under the Nepal Red Cross Society Kaski warning that dwindling stock of AB positive blood may soon be insufficient to meet demand.
According to the Provincial Blood Transfusion Service in Pokhara, the supply of AB positive blood has been declining, raising concerns of a possible shortage in the coming days.
Service Chief Arjun Gnyawali said that no regular blood donation programs have been scheduled between June 2 and June 6, increasing the risk of supply shortages during this period.
He urged various organizations, clubs, mothers’ groups, cooperatives, and community organizations to organize emergency blood donation drives.
“Considering the potential shortage, we have requested different groups to organize urgent blood donation programs. Even a small effort can save lives, so we appeal to everyone to come forward,” he said, adding that regular donation programs are necessary due to consistently high demand.
Pokhara, also the provincial capital, receives patients referred from multiple districts, leading to sustained high demand for blood.
According to the Provincial Blood Transfusion Service, the city requires around 70 to 80 units of blood daily.
