RSP Chair Lamichhane holding talks with private sector

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has initiated discussions with representatives of the private sector amid growing concerns over recent arrests of industrialists and business figures.

Lamichhane has invited business leaders affiliated with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI), and Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC) for a dialogue scheduled for Sunday.

According to a businessman familiar with the invitation, the discussion will focus on the challenges faced by the private sector in improving the business environment, as well as policy suggestions to accelerate economic activity.

The initiative comes at a time when sections of the private sector have expressed concern over what they describe as a pattern of increased arrests of industrialists and entrepreneurs following the formation of the current government.

Business leaders have been urging authorities to ensure due process, arguing that entrepreneurs should be heard first and legal action taken only after proper investigation and confirmation of wrongdoing.

The RSP leadership is understood to be engaging with stakeholders to address mounting anxieties within the investment community and to explore measures aimed at restoring confidence in the economic environment.
