Vehicles set on fire in two separate incidents in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Two vehicles parked at separate locations in Kathmandu were set on fire by an unidentified group on Monday night.

According to Superintendent of Police Pawan Bhattarai at the Kathmandu District Police Office, the incidents occurred in Naikap and Maharajgunj.

A Toyota car (Ba 28 Cha 36) parked near the office of Sipradi Trading in Naikap and a Maruti van (Ba 7 Cha 1401) parked near the Capital Petrol Pump in Maharajgunj were set ablaze.

Police said leaflets associated with a group led by medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai were found at both incident sites.

Preliminary investigations suggest the arson may have been carried out by a group attempting to disrupt the upcoming House of Representatives by-election scheduled for March 5, police said.

Both vehicles sustained damage in the fire. Police have launched an operation to identify and apprehend those involved. Authorities said CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is currently being reviewed as part of the investigation.
