KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has stressed the need for the government to work closely with the private sector to promote the growth and expansion of Nepal’s digital economy.
Speaking at an interaction programme on “Digital Economy: Local Employment and Access to the Global Market” at the party’s central office in Sanepa on Sunday, Thapa said the government should adopt an ambitious approach towards the digital economy while placing greater trust in the capabilities of the private sector.
He said the government must move away from the mindset that it alone possesses all the solutions and instead recognise the expertise of the private sector and the dynamism of the market.
Thapa said Nepal has the potential to make the digital economy the backbone of its economy and argued that its development should be treated as a national agenda rather than the priority of any single political party.
He also said preparations are underway to provide lawmakers with research materials and study reports to make parliamentary debate on the digital economy more informed and evidence-based.
