Rainfall eases as temperatures begin rising across Terai

KATHMANDU: Following three days of rain triggered by various weather systems, temperatures have started to rise again across parts of the country, particularly in the Terai region.

According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, maximum temperatures remained below 37 degrees Celsius during the past three days. However, with rainfall activity decreasing, temperatures are gradually increasing once again.

The department has warned that heat conditions may intensify in some Terai districts from today. Bhairahawa recorded the highest temperature of 37.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.

As of 10:00 pm (Monday), no rainfall had been recorded anywhere in the country during the previous hour. While light rainfall occurred in a few districts, including Dailekh, over the past 24 hours, significant precipitation has largely ceased in most areas.

Department Information Officer Dinkar Kayastha said there is a possibility of hot daytime conditions in Madhesh Province and the Terai districts of Koshi Province on Tuesday.

The Department has forecast generally cloudy conditions in the hilly and mountainous regions and partly cloudy weather in the Terai. There remains a chance of moderate to heavy rainfall or snowfall accompanied by thunder and lightning at a few locations in the Himalayan and hilly regions, as well as at one or two places in Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

A similar weather pattern is expected on Wednesday, with generally cloudy skies in the hills and mountains and partly cloudy conditions in the Terai.

Moderate to heavy rain or snowfall, along with thunder and lightning, is likely at a few places in the higher regions and at isolated locations in the Terai of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces.

In its evening bulletin on Monday, the Department also warned of hot daytime conditions in Madhesh Province and the Terai areas of Koshi, Bagmati and Gandaki provinces. It stated that the current weather is being influenced by a western low-pressure trough and local wind systems.
