UML’s Ram Bahadur Thapa  sarcastically critiques RSP’s victory in first House session

KATHMANDU: Ram Bahadur Thapa, parliamentary leader of the CPN-UML, delivered a sharp and satirical address regarding the Rastriya Swatantra Party’s (RSP) March 5 election victory during the first meeting of the House of Representatives.

Thapa extended ironic congratulations, including to various powers, institutions, and what he termed the villains of the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9, 2025, which he suggested contributed to RSP’s win.

“Congratulations to RSP for this unprecedented victory. Many deserve credit for laying the foundation of this historic win — the Nepal Army, the government led by Sushila Karki, the Barbara Foundation, and other security agencies also played a role. Thank them as well,” Thapa said.

He further mocked the victory, citing factors like “Tibetan Origin Blood (TOB), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Goebbels” as influencing public opinion to favor RSP while portraying traditional parties — Nepali Congress, UML, and Maoist — as villains.

Thapa claimed the September 8 and 9, 2025, movement occurred under RSP’s de facto leadership. “Through the March 5 elections, the Blue Revolution achieved an institutional victory. On March 27, Prime Minister Balendra Shah took oath in a religious ceremony,” he said.

He raised pointed questions about the destruction and arson that took place during the Gen-Z movement.

“Who made the villains who burned the country on September 8 and 9 into heroes? For what purpose were the Singha Durbar, Parliament, Supreme Court, and Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar set on fire? Who forced students into restricted areas?” Thapa asked.

He also questioned the recent arrests of the Home Minister and Prime Minister and criticized restrictions on rights, media trials, cyber intimidation, and the use of force against peaceful protesters from UML.

Finally, Thapa extended congratulations to MPs from the opposition parties, including the Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), and Shram Sanskriti Party.
