Govt ready to hand over responsibilities post elections: Home Minister

KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Om Prakash Aryal said the incumbent government is preparing for elections with a mandate to transfer responsibility through good governance, upholding the rule of law, and ensuring a corruption-free administration.

Speaking at the launch of the Foreign National Management Information System (FNMIS) organized by the Department of Immigration on Thursday, Minister Aryal highlighted the role of all stakeholders in facilitating free and fair elections.

The Home Minister expressed confidence that the system, designed to strengthen the security of foreign visitors, streamline information flow, prevent potential crimes, and promote tourism, would mark a milestone in Nepal’s immigration management.

Director General of the Department of Immigration, Ramchandra Tiwari, said the system will make the entry, exit, and stay of foreign nationals more effective in accordance with immigration laws. He added that the system will enhance personal security for visitors, facilitate search and rescue operations during disasters, monitor any unwanted activities, and make investigations more efficient in case of crimes.

“This system will also contribute to developing Nepal as a safe tourist destination at the international level,” Tiwari noted.

The system will initially be implemented in star-rated hotels in the Kathmandu Valley and expanded to all relevant stakeholders across the country in the coming months, according to the Department of Immigration.
