Everest Tourism Awards and World Peace Conference to be held in May

KATHMANDU: AMS Music and Entertainment Pvt. Ltd. is set to organize the second edition of the Everest Tourism Awards 2026 along with a World Peace Conference on May 29, 2026, marking International Everest Day.

Chairperson of the organizing company, Satyakala Tamang Lama, said the event aims to honor individuals and organizations that have made notable contributions to sustainable tourism, art, culture, and mountain conservation.

He emphasized that the program seeks to bring Nepal’s tourism, cultural heritage, and conservation efforts onto a single platform. “Without sustainable tourism, mountains cannot be protected, and without mountains, Nepal’s tourism identity cannot exist,” he said.

Lama added that the inaugural awards program held last year was successful, prompting its continuation this year. According to him, last year’s event recognized individuals and institutions for their significant roles in various areas of the tourism sector.

Chief advisor Namgel Sherpa informed that mountaineers, icefall doctors, workers, journalists, social workers, and researchers will be among those honored at the event. He also said a judging committee has been formed and that several national and international personalities are expected to attend the program.

Providing details about the World Peace Conference, managing director Phurba Gyalbo Moktan said the summit will focus on raising awareness about the impacts of the climate crisis.

“The main objective is to highlight shared global challenges related to climate change and to present Nepal’s perspective on its impacts to the world,” he said.

Advisor Mahesh Kirati said both programs are being organized to commemorate the historic first ascent of Mount Everest. He noted that May 29, 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa successfully summited Everest for the first time, marked not only a milestone in mountaineering history but also a symbol of Nepali pride and human courage. International Everest Day is celebrated annually in remembrance of this achievement.
