PM Oli to visit Turkmenistan for Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to visit Turkmenistan from August 2 to 8 to attend the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries.

Government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung announced the visit following a cabinet meeting held on Thursday, July 24. He said the Council of Ministers approved the formation of a Nepali delegation led by Prime Minister Oli for the high-level gathering.

The cabinet also approved several other decisions during the meeting. Among them was the acceptance of 2.8 billion Japanese Yen (approximately Rs 2.6 billion) in grant aid from the Government of Japan for the emergency reconstruction of roads damaged by recent flooding in Sindhuli district.

Additionally, the cabinet agreed to accept a concessional loan worth Rs 18.92 billion from the International Development Association, a branch of the World Bank Group, for the third phase of the Rani Jamara Irrigation Project.

The cabinet also promoted Bimal Paudel, Registrar at the Supreme Court, to the position of Chief Registrar under the gazetted special category of Nepal’s judicial service, based on the recommendation of the Judicial Service Commission.

Spokesperson Gurung further stated that the government has declared the Terai-Madhes region as drought-affected, following a prolonged dry spell that has impacted farming. He added that necessary relief measures will be put in place to support affected farmers.

He said that all ministries are seriously working to simplify procurement and construction processes and dismissed any need for political posturing, asserting that the government is focused on providing timely and accountable solutions to the public.
