KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has begun formal preparations for its upcoming Second Statute Convention, scheduled to take place from September 5 to 7 at Sunrise Hall in Godavari, Lalitpur.
The party has allocated specific responsibilities to senior leaders and departments to ensure the successful organization of the high-level internal gathering.
According to Dr. Bhishma Adhikari, secretary of the UML’s central office, the responsibilities were assigned during a meeting chaired by General Secretary Shankar Pokharel on Wednesday.
The Organization Department has been tasked with verifying the total number of representatives attending the convention. This includes identifying how many delegates from the 10th National Congress have since passed away or left the party.
Dr. Adhikari said the meeting focused on logistical and administrative matters essential to the smooth functioning of the three-day event. Krishna Gopal Shrestha, head of the party’s Health and Population Department, has been put in charge of managing health-related coordination. Bhanu Bhakta Dhakal, head of the Mass Organization Coordination Mechanism, will oversee the mobilization of volunteers. Dr. Adhikari himself has been given the responsibility of managing the secretariat and food arrangements during the convention.
Rajendra Gautam, chief of the Publicity Department, will lead promotion and communication efforts, while central committee member Hemraj Rai will coordinate welcome dances and cultural performances. Transport and stage management duties have been assigned to central committee member Binod Shrestha.
Delegates attending the convention will need to arrange their own accommodation. For those unable to manage it, district and provincial contact coordination committees will step in to provide support. Lalbabu Pandit has been designated to coordinate this task.
A total of 2,279 delegates are expected to take part in the convention, which will focus on reviewing and updating the party’s internal statute and organizational structure.
