CAN board meets to discuss Nepal Premier League accounts

KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) board convened on Thursday at its central office in Mulpani to discuss, among other matters, the long-pending financial details of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

According to a CAN official, the meeting is focused primarily on addressing concerns about transparency and financial accountability related to the first season of the NPL.

The board meeting, which began Thursday morning, follows growing internal pressure within CAN to clarify the league’s financial management. The agenda for the meeting had been circulated on Tuesday.

“This meeting is centered on reviewing the accounts of the first NPL season,” the official said.

Earlier in May, CAN Vice President Roshan Singh and seven board members submitted a formal letter to CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand, demanding that the NPL’s financial records be presented to the board.

They complained that even after repeated requests, the financial report had neither been made available nor approved by the board.

In their letter, the dissenting members also raised concerns over factionalism, lack of transparency, and regional imbalance within the cricket governing body. They called for structural reforms to ensure inclusivity, fairness, and accountability in Nepali cricket.

“The current working style within CAN does not reflect a commitment to a fair, transparent, and inclusive system. This could seriously harm the long-term interests of Nepali cricket,” the group had stated.

Signatories of the letter included Vice President Roshan Singh, and board members Madhav Karmacharya, Pradeep Majgaiya, Durgaraj Pathak, Bikram Bista, Birendra Chand, Arjun Paudel, and Jayanti Bhatt.

Thursday’s board meeting was attended by CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Secretary Paras Khadka, and other senior officials and members.
