Rabi Lamichhane: Public outrage isn’t for the King’s return, it’s the result of republican leaders’ misdeeds

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has claimed that the growing public anger on the streets is not about reinstating the monarchy but rather a reaction to the failures of republican leaders.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Lamichhane asserted that the government’s actions have fueled public outrage.

“This government couldn’t control just 4,000 people on the streets. The protests are not in favor of the king, they are the result of the major parties’ wrongdoings. This won’t last long,” he said.

Lamichhane further declared that he is ready to face any consequences. “I am prepared to take a bullet. But I won’t bow my head to those trying to silence me. Try bringing competent people like us into Parliament once, two thieves joining hands don’t make a saint,” he added.

Addressing republican parties, he dismissed any alignment with them. “I have no desire to stand in your ranks just for a photo-op. What you call democracy isn’t real democracy. You wear the mask of republicanism, but RSP doesn’t,” he stated.

Lamichhane has resumed his role as RSP Chair from Monday after his parliamentary suspension had led to Dol Prasad Aryal’s appointment as acting chair in December.
