PM Oli announces first official visit to Thailand in 65 years

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has announced his upcoming official visit to Thailand and participation in the BIMSTEC Summit, marking the first official visit of a Nepali Prime Minister to Thailand in 65 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his address to the House of Representatives on Monday, Prime Minister Oli confirmed that his visit would take place from April 1, highlighting its significance as the first such visit after over six decades.

He highlighted that Thailand, especially its capital Bangkok, serves as a vital gateway for Nepali citizens traveling to countries beyond their immediate neighbors.

During his visit, Prime Minister Oli is set to hold meetings with Thailand’s King and Prime Minister. Two memorandums of understanding (MoUs) related to tourism and culture will be signed, alongside six MoUs between non-governmental sectors of both countries.

In addition to the official talks, Oli will engage with prominent Thai businessmen and address the Asian Institute of Technology.

He is also scheduled to deliver an address at the BIMSTEC Summit on April 4. After his address, he plans to engage in sideline discussions with leaders from other BIMSTEC member countries.
