PM Oli blames former King Gyanendra for Tinkune violence

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has held former King Gyanendra Shah responsible for the violence, arson, and looting that took place in the Tinkune area on March 28.

Speaking at the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, Oli said that the former king should take full responsibility for the incidents that occurred during the demonstration led by the Joint People’s Movement Committee, which advocates for the restoration of the monarchy.

“No one involved in criminal acts is immune. Shouldn’t those who claim to restore the monarchy and disrupt the system make their views public on these incidents?” Oli questioned.

He further accused Gyanendra of inciting unrest and attempting to destabilize the country.

The protest, led by Durga Prasai and Nawaraj Subedi, turned violent, resulting in vandalism and clashes. Oli pointed out that the former king had met with the protest leaders at Nirmal Niwas a day before the incident, raising concerns about his role in fueling the unrest.

Oli also recalled the post-monarchy agreements that allowed Shah to live as a normal citizen with state security and privileges. He accused the former king of violating those commitments by encouraging political instability.
