Rajbiraj schools closed as cold wave disrupts daily life

SAPTARI: Schools in Rajbiraj and two other municipalities in Saptari have been closed for three days as a severe cold wave affects daily life.

According to a notification issued today by Rajbiraj Municipality Senior Education Officer Bhogendra Prasad Yadav, all schools across Rajbiraj Municipality will remain closed from December 20 to January 1, 2026.

Similarly, Mahadeva and Agnisair Krishnasawaran Rural Municipalities have also declared a three-day holiday for all schools. Mahadeva Rural Municipality Chairman Sunil Kumar Mandal cited the intensifying cold, which could adversely affect children’s health, as the reason for the closure.

In Agnisair Krishnasawaran, a notification signed by Acting Chairperson Kalpana Kumari Chaudhary and Chief Administrative Officer Dhirendra Kumar Yadav stated that all community, religious, and institutional schools will remain closed.

Earlier, Dakneshwari Municipality and Rajgadh Rural Municipality had announced a five-day holiday for all private and community schools, lasting until Friday. Bodebarsain Municipality had also closed schools citing extreme cold conditions.

The cold wave has disrupted normal life across Saptari. Thick morning and evening fog, along with cold winds in the afternoon, has affected children, the elderly, and livestock.

Hospitals are reporting a surge in patients, particularly at Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital in Rajbiraj, where cases of cold, fever, and asthma are increasing daily. Health posts across the district are experiencing similar pressures.
