RSP to continue protest until parliamentary probe on visit visa scam is formed

BHAIRAHAWA: The Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has decided to continue its protest in the parliament until a parliamentary investigation committee is formed to probe the recent visit visa scandal.

A meeting of the party’s parliamentary group held in Bhairahawa on Wednesday concluded that corruption and irregularities have flourished under the guise of visit visas. Chief Whip Santosh Pariyar said the party will maintain its obstruction of House proceedings until the investigation committee is established.

The meeting also decided to expand the movement beyond parliament and launch protests on the streets.

Additionally, the meeting criticized recent bills related to land, civil service, and education, alleging that they encroach on parliamentary jurisdiction. Lawmakers were instructed to raise a stronger voice against such overreach in the House.

The RSP also resolved to raise issues faced by people in Lumbini Province, including tourism-related challenges, in parliament. The party further urged the government to implement voting rights for Nepali citizens living abroad.

Before the meeting, several lawmakers, including Sobita Gautam, visited party chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently in Bhairahawa jail, to consult on the ongoing developments.
