Monarchy will not be reinstated: PM Oli

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has firmly stated that the monarchy will never be reinstated to Nepal, emphasizing that it was abolished through the people’s struggle and the establishment of a democratic republic.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Ninth National General Convention of the Rastriya Janasanskritik Mahasangh Nepal (National People’s Cultural Federation, Nepal) today, PM Oli—who is also the Chair of the CPN (UML)—criticized those opposing the current system, calling them “a group of fools” who prefer servitude over citizenship even in a republic.

“Some people see only negativity in the republic because they lack the spirit of freedom,” he said. “The whole forest may echo with the howling of a few jackals, but it causes no harm. Those dreaming of restoring monarchy are chasing illusions. Such regressive tendencies must be confronted by beating the cultural dhyangro (traditional drum) with strength,” he added.

PM Oli urged everyone to unite in the campaign for prosperity, freedom, and peace, calling for a collective effort to preserve Nepal’s cultural and democratic achievements.

He also stressed the importance of producing positive and patriotic films and plays that reflect and promote Nepal’s rich cultural, linguistic, and artistic diversity, assuring that such creations would always find a receptive audience.
