Monsoon to bring heavy rain to parts of western Nepal



KATHMANDU: With monsoon winds currently affecting the country, the weather is expected to remain generally to fully cloudy across Nepal this afternoon, according to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology.

The Weather Forecasting Division has forecast light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several hilly areas, including regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, as well as in some other parts of the country.

Additionally, there is a likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall in isolated areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim, and at one or two locations in the hilly regions of other provinces.

The Division also indicated the possibility of light to moderate rain and snowfall in parts of the high hills and mountainous regions.

Tonight, the weather is expected to remain generally to completely cloudy across the country. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning is likely in many hilly areas of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, along with some other regions.

Heavy to very heavy rain may occur in some areas of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and at isolated locations in the hilly regions of other provinces. Light to moderate rain and snowfall are also forecast for some high hilly and mountainous areas during the night.

The Division has advised the public to remain alert, especially in areas at risk of landslides, floods, and waterlogging due to the expected heavy rainfall.
