Army and Police face off in Prime Minister’s Cup final today

KATHMANDU: The final match of the Prime Minister’s Cup Men’s National Cricket Tournament in Lumbini Province is set to take place today, with Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club battling for the championship title.

The match will begin at 9 am at Siddhartha Cricket Stadium. Army will be led by Binod Bhandari, while Dipendra Singh Airee will captain the Police team.

Both teams have been dominant throughout the tournament, winning eight out of nine group-stage matches.

Army suffered its only defeat against Madhesh Province, while Police lost to Army in the final group match.

This will be a rematch of last year’s final, where Police defeated Army to claim the title. Police also secured victory against Army in the Jai Trophy Elite Cup final.

The two sides have a history of fierce competition in the PM Cup. In 2017, they shared the title after a tied final. Since then, Police has won the tournament twice, while Army has lifted the trophy once.

Army has been the most consistent team, reaching every final since 2017. However, they have lost the title four times, winning only once in 2021 against APF Club. Police, on the other hand, boasts a perfect record in finals, winning all three appearances.

A win today would give Police their fourth title, while Army is determined to level the tally.

Along with Army and Police, APF Club and Bagmati Province have already secured spots in the upcoming Jai Trophy Elite Cup.
