KATHMANDU: A total of 11,993 people have been rescued from flood-affected areas following the Bhotekoshi disaster, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
The Authority said 4,091 Nepali nationals and 273 foreign nationals were rescued through air operations conducted by the Nepali Army.
NEA spokesperson Shanti Mahat said 5,135 people injured in the flood and other disaster-related incidents have received medical treatment. Of them, 3,206 were treated by the Nepali Army, 1,628 by the Armed Police Force Nepal and 301 at various hospitals.
According to the authority, 3,948 rescued people are currently staying at holding centers. “Of them, 2,981 are in Nuwakot, 260 in Dhading, 320 in Rasuwa and 387 in Kathmandu,” spokesperson Mahat said.
A total of 21,402 security personnel have been mobilized for search, rescue and relief operations, including 9,287 from the Nepali Army, 7,912 from Nepal Police and 4,203 from the Armed Police Force Nepal. Mahat said relief materials have been transported from Kathmandu to the affected areas using 45 trucks, 37 Bolero vehicles, nine helicopter flights and 14 mini-trucks.
The Armed Police Force Nepal has also transported relief supplies to Nuwakot and Rasuwa through 130 air sorties, according to the Authority. The Authority said 46,000 litres of diesel, 24,000 litres of petrol and 21,000 litres of aviation fuel are currently available in the affected areas.
All 110 damaged Nepal Telecom towers have been restored to operation, while 75 of Ncell’s 78 damaged towers have also resumed service, according to the Authority.
