Vehicular movement resumes at Friendship Bridge in Rasuwa

RASUWA: Cross-border movement has resumed today (Sunday) at the Rasuwagadhi border, which had been closed for six months.

Trucks have started heading toward Kerung from the Nepal side since 7:00 this morning. Chief District Officer of Rasuwa, Rajesh Panthi, said the Bailey bridge constructed over the Lhende River, on the Nepal-China border, has been completed. He added that Chinese authorities have informed that the Rasuwagadhi checkpoint will officially reopen from January 1, 2026.

Inspector Bikram Kunwar of the Timure border police post stated that Nepali lorry and container drivers, along with business representatives, have already departed for Kerung to bring cargo containers. These containers had previously gone to Kerung before July 8, when floods and landslides damaged the bridge.

Chief Customs Officer Tulsi Prasad Bhattarai said the flood, which washed away the Friendship Bridge over the Lhendekhola rivulet, along with the closure of businesses since July 8, caused a revenue loss of around 20 billion rupees in customs duties compared to the same period last year.

The flood also damaged the under-construction dry port at Timure, and the 16-kilometre road from Rasuwagadhi to Syafrubesi was washed away in several places by the river.
