CPN-UML to hold Secretariat meeting today

KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML is holding a Secretariat meeting today, marking its first such gathering since the party concluded its 11th general convention.

The meeting is expected to focus primarily on finalizing candidates under the proportional representation system ahead of the upcoming House of Representatives election.

According to Central Office Secretary Dr Bhishma Adhikari, the meeting will be held on Sunday at 11 am at the party’s central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur. The primary agenda is to finalize the list of candidates for proportional representation.

A party office-bearer said the meeting will also deliberate on office management, the current political situation, and include a briefing by party chair KP Sharma Oli on his discussions held on Saturday with the Prime Minister and leaders of the other two major parties.

The Election Commission has fixed December 28 as the deadline for submitting the closed list of proportional representation candidates for the House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, 2026.

The UML has already prepared a preliminary shortlist by collecting names from district and provincial levels and plans to finalize and submit the list following Sunday’s discussions.
