Finance Minister Khanal, Japanese Ambassador Maeda discuss Nepal–Japan cooperation



KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal held a courtesy meeting with Japanese Ambassador to Nepal Maeda Toru at the Finance Ministry on Sunday.

During the talks, the two discussed Nepal’s current transitional context, the historic ties between Nepal and Japan, and Japan’s continued support in Nepal’s economic and social development.

Minister Khanal said the primary responsibility of the present government, formed under special circumstances, is to conduct elections within the stipulated timeframe. He added that reconstruction and other economic and social development efforts would continue during this period.

The discussions also covered ongoing projects supported by Japan, including the Nagdhunga tunnel road project and the Tanahu hydropower project. Both sides also reviewed upcoming cooperation programs, such as the Koteshwor junction improvement project and the Sindhuli road flood rehabilitation initiative, which are expected to be finalized soon.

Finance Secretary Ghanshyam Upadhyay and Joint Secretary Dhaniram Sharma of the International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division were also present at the meeting.
