NEPSE slides 2 points as daily turnover shrinks



KATHMANDU: The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) continued its downward trend on Monday, closing 2.07 points lower compared to the previous trading day.

Despite showing a gain of 12 points during the final minutes, the weighted average price adjustment pulled the index down, settling it at 2,962 points.

This followed a sharper decline on Sunday, when NEPSE shed 18.44 points. The market opened weak on Monday and dipped significantly, reaching a low of 2,918 points by 12:38 PM, the lowest point of the day. It later recovered partially, swinging through minor fluctuations before closing with a modest loss.

Trading volume also saw a significant drop. Total turnover declined from Rs 26.57 billion on Sunday to Rs 19.36 billion today.

Despite the overall drop in the index, some sectoral indices posted notable gains. The Trading sector surged 3.24%, while the Development Bank group rose by 3.04%. Similarly, the Finance sector gained 2.75%, and the Manufacturing and Processing group advanced by 1.71%.

On the losing side, key sectors such as Banking (-0.89%), Hydropower (-0.50%), Life Insurance (-0.66%), Non-Life Insurance (-0.72%), and Microfinance (-0.33%) closed in the red. The Hotel & Tourism, Investment, and Others groups also posted marginal losses.
