KATHMANDU: Nepal has exported tea worth Rs 3.57 billion as of April 13 in the current fiscal year 2024/25, which began on July 16, 2024.

Tea exports are expected to reach Rs 4.5 billion by the end of the year, according to the National Tea and Coffee Development Board.

Chandra Puri, an official of the board, stated that Nepal’s tea sector has created approximately 60,000 jobs. There are currently 171 tea estates and 120 small- and medium-sized tea processing centers in the country.

He also shared that tea was cultivated on 20,760 hectares of land during the 2023/24 fiscal year, with a total production of 27 million kilograms of processed tea. Additionally, there are 15,203 tea farmers in Nepal.

Puri further mentioned that 16.5 million kilograms of tea, valued at Rs 3.63 billion, were exported in the previous fiscal year.

In celebration of the 29th National Tea Day, the Board has organized a tea exhibition at Harihar Bhawan in Pulchowk today.

The exhibition aims to promote Nepali tea in the international market. Puri noted that discussions would take place among tea farmers, workers, cooperatives, entrepreneurs, businesspersons, and relevant organizations, showcasing tea produced from various districts of the country in one location.

This year’s theme for National Tea Day is “Healthy Tea, Sustainable Market, Foundation of Prosperous Nepal.”
