One dead in today’s protest in Tinkune

KATHMANDU: One person died in aftermath of the royalist protest organized by the Joint People’s Movement Committee.

Sabin Maharjan, 29, from Kirtipur, died during treatment at TU Teaching Hospital.

The Home Ministry confirmed the death during a press conference on Friday evening.

According to reports, the incident occurred after Durga Prasai, a leader of the royalist movement, and his supporters began moving towards New Baneshwor, defying a police-imposed ban.

In response, the police used force, including firing tear gas shells, to disperse the protesters. The royalists retaliated by pelting stones at the police and engaging in acts of arson, setting fire to private houses, media offices, and political party headquarters.
