Dry landslide blocks movement on Beni-Jomsom road

MYAGDI: The Beni-Jomsom road, a crucial route connecting the tourism hub of Mustang to the national highway via northern Myagdi, has been blocked due to a dry landslide.

The landslide occurred early this morning at Ghoptebhir, located on the border between Annapurna Rural Municipality in Myagdi and Thasang Rural Municipality in Mustang. As a result, all vehicular movement along the route has come to a halt.

Tej Bahadur Kumal, Chief Police Assistant Inspector at the Sapma Police Post in Ghansa, informed that the Road Department has deployed equipment to clear the debris and restore the road.

The blockage has severed direct transport links to Mustang district. Compounding the situation, the Pokhara-Jomsom air service remains suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

Tourists and locals have been stranded on both sides of the road—those headed to Mustang are stuck in Kavre of Myagdi, while travelers returning from Mustang are stranded in Ghansa.
